Health systems crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic had massive consequences for societies and health systems across the world. Health systems were not resilient enough.

The shortage and absence of essential medicines, the shortage of medical personnel, unskilled medical staff, outdated and non-functioning medical equipment - these are just a small part of the issues.

Approximately 40 per cent of Canadians who needed a hip or knee replacement waited six months or more for the procedure in recent year not including the time they waited to see a specialist in the first place. In Nova Scotia more than 60 per cent of patients waited longer than the national goal of six months for a new hip or knee.

Patients who sometimes wait months or years for a coveted specialist appointment, it is difficult to understand why the health-care system is turning away eager new doctors who have more than a decade of taxpayer-supported education and training under their belts.

Do you recognize the health crisis and what ways do you see to overcome it?
